DIY: D&D Volcano

Today I randomly decided I was going to make a volcano for Dungeons and Dragons. Everytime I get new items with interesting shapes I keep them stored away. I keep boxes, pringles cans, styrofoam, etc.

For a while I had this guy:

It came in a box of something my husband ordered. Cannot for the life of me remember what it was :/. Sorry about that part. As soon as I saw it I knew I could use it to make a mountain. I put it away until I found something else I could use along with it.

I was organizing the craft room and found this brown paper:

It is used for packaging and fill in empty spaces in your boxes. Since it was all crumbled I thought it would look exactly like a mountain if I covered the styrofoam piece with it.

I decided to make this into a volcano so first I cut out a piece in the styrofoam with scissors.

The little part in the left that you can see in the picture above will serve as an entrance to the volcano. The husband came up with that idea.

Once the hole was cut out i crumbled the paper more and started wrapping it around.

Once I had it how I wanted it I would secure it on the inside by using my glue gun. I secured the top through the crater and the bottom underneath.

Here it is completely covered all around. I am pretty happy with it. For the entrance i rolled up some paper and created an arch to hold it open.

This is how I left it for now. I also covered the inside with paper because of the way I plan on using it. Might be seeing the inside so need that to look like rock also.

I do think I will be adding some paint to this to darken it up a bit in some spots and make it look more real. Then I will finish it off with modge podge so it hardens and preserves the paper.

Hope this inspires others to make their own mountains/volcanoes and is helpful!

XOXO,
Lina
